Part of what makes the Seaport Inn & Marina stand out from other hotels is our commitment and pride in our community. It is our obligation to support local businesses, programs, events, and organizations that are looking to create a better world around us, as well as giving our employee's the opportunity to grow and reach their full potential in the work place so they can contribute to society. We plan to pursue our mission by creating a fun and educational work environment contributing to charities, donating to charities by donating event space while also supporting their cause, as well as bringing in guests from all over the world to support our community and local area history and business. Seaport Inn & Marina donated function space for many Better Community Living events

Better Community Living provides the opportunity to live, work and learn, Better Community Living supports adults and children with disabilities to be valued members of the Greater New Bedford community. All supports are family-centered, culturally sensitive, community-oriented and well-coordinated.

Better Community Living provides residential, community, vocational, individual, and family support programs to adults and children with developmental disabilities and their families. Each person is supported in becoming a productive member of his/her community and building an ever-widening circle of friends.

Better Community Living's programs serve excellence through guidance, instruction, companionship and full integration into the surrounding neighborhood. By encouraging choices each individual can create a healthy, happy home and is offered opportunities to reach his/her dreams.

The Seaport Inn & Marina donated function space for a Tribute to Frank Monteiro event to be held

Frank "Chico" Monteiro was a well-known musician in this area.

He was a leader of the Cape Verdean community who served as past Presidents of the Cape Verdean Action Committee and The Cape Verdean Ultramarine Band Club. He was honored this past summer in 2010 as the Grand Marshall of the Cape Verdean Recognition Parade an honor only bestowed on the most important leaders of the Cape Verdean community!

As a leader of the community of the City of New Bedford, he served as former New Bedford Airport Commissioner, and former Vice Chairman of the New Bedford Senior Advisory Board.

As a true American citizen, Frank served his country proudly during World War II as a musician in the U.S. Army with the 173rd Army Ground Forces Band.

The Seaport Inn & Marina donated function space for the Donna Palomba event to be held

Donna Palomba shares a series of events that have greatly impacted her life from September 1993 through 2006. The events will take you through the horror of a violent crime, a flawed and corrupt system, brilliant detective work and the power of DNA. Most importantly, it is a story of hope and perseverance, and bears witness to the fact that good will ultimately triumph over evil.

The Seaport Inn & Marina donated six rooms for the Lions Club and Harlem Ambassadors players to stay

The mission of the Harlem Ambassadors is to deliver a quality basketball show to their audiences throughout the United States and internationally. The show is designed to be fun for customers of all ages, with youngsters being awed for the first time and older folks enjoying the tried-and-true gags like a rerun of a favorite comedy movie. The Ambassadors' operation is professional in all aspects. In addition to having a wholesome family entertainment product, we are also good citizens and willing role models for youth, promoting the values of staying in school, staying off drugs and fostering racial harmony.

The Seaport Inn & Marina donated function space for the Robby Thatcher Fundraiser to be held

Robby Thatcher was an athlete, a poet, a surfer and a musician. He grew up in Fairhaven, Massachusetts and attended Fairhaven public schools until his junior year. Robby was diagnosed with leukemia. He underwent chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant and enjoyed 13 months of remission before the leukemia came back..Robby relapsed. His second series of treatments were too much for his body to handle. Robby lost his battle with cancer on November 28, 2003.

His wonderful personality and amazing strength taught us what bravery truly is. In Robby's memory we reach out to families going through similar situations. We offer both financial and emotional support to these families. Our wish is to help. We give scholarships out to seniors at Fairhaven and New Bedford High school yearly.

Octopus's Garden A Tribute to the Beatles and Comedy Hour with Steve Lopes as the Portuguese Fireman

District Fire Chief Gerald W. Nadeau Memorial Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)(3) foundation established to restore a 1986 Pierce Dash fire apparatus with the intent to use it as a memorial for fallen firefighters in a funeral procession.

The District Fire Chief Gerald W. Nadeau Memorial Foundation allocates monies for social events such as parades, demonstrations and fundraisers for the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. The monies collected are used entirely for the restoration and maintenance of this apparatus and any remaining funds are distributed to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation scholarship fund in memory of District Fire Chief Gerald W. Nadeau.

Anchor Animal Hospital Donation

"I would like to thank you for your generous donation to Team Angus as we walked at the Annual MSPCA Dog Walk. With your support, we were able to raise $1100 for the MSPCA.

There were over 1000 dogs and owners attending. Angus and his team members from Anchor Animal Hospital had a great time at the walk and enjoyed meeting other pet owners and their dogs on the Boston Common.

The event was great success, raising more than $100,000 for the MSPCA."

Owen Allred Mission Appreciation from Better Community Living

"When Ms. Jami Franco of the Seaport Inn called to inform me that Mr. Bob Contreras was developing another charitable project related to servicemen missing in action, I was not surprisedat all.

Mr. Bob Contreras and The Seaport Inn has been one of Better Community Living, Inc.'s biggest supporters over the past five years. In this time, he has opened the doors of his facility at the Seaport Inn to host charitable events, as well as, holiday parties for the consumers at Better Community Living, Inc. Over the past years, these combined donations have a value of over ten thousand dollars.

Prior to Mr. Contreras' involvement with Better Community Living, Inc., we used to provide a holiday party for the consumers with a dinner, dancing and gifts for all the consumers at the expense of the agency. At one of the first holiday parties, Mr. Contreras came in and insisted that I did not acknowledge him as one of our contributors and refused to take any payment for the hall rental or the meals provided for that holiday party. He has continued that donation for the last several years which has enabled us to provide larger holiday gifts for the consumers that we support.

Better Community Living, Inc., a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization, provides primarily residential
supports to adults with significant developmental disabilities as well as medical challenges. Our
agency has been part of the Greater New Bedford area for the past 25 years. The same consumers that we support have also been part of Better Community Living, Inc. going back for 25 years.

Many of the consumers at Better Community Living, Inc. have no family or have family out of
the area. This holiday party event each year is one of the largest social events for the agency. It is very touching to see so many people without family being able to enjoy generous gifts that Mr.Contreras has given them year after year.
